I Doth Needeth A Male Nor Does My Child
Hello reader, this is my action project for unit #1 of drama class at GCE lab school. During this course we have read " The Tragedy of Macbeth" by William Shakespeare. The story of a broken hero Macbeth who was told he would be crowned king if he killed the current king. We see the struggle Macbeth faces after he has killed the king. He later developed a real taste for killing. Such as he later goes on to kill several other characters without true necessity. We learn of the kings true heirs combating Macbeth's rain of terror and reclaiming there rightful seat on the thrown. Also in this class we talked a lot about gender roles and what constitutes a "queen". Our general consensus is that a queen is a person with feminine energy who is in power with strong influence over a large group of people or a society. To show what I have learned in this course I created a sonnet (poem) responding to a character from Macbeth about their view on gender roles. I chose to respond to a character named Lady Macduff. Enjoy!
To address thine Madam Macduff
Your boy would have grown up fine
Without a father he could still be very tough
For if you do it right his childhood could be devine
Having a male figure isn't always ideal
For you can be a strong single mother
Though having parental support has appeal
You doth needn’t another
To address Madam Macduff again
It is not right to replace
A man whom suffer so much pain
With usage of your pretty face
Raise your son right and love his father
Do this to answer thy question " how wilt thou do for a father?"
Overall, This action project summarizes the unit very well. I learned a lot about gender roles and Shakespearean English. If you haven't read " The Tragedy of Macbeth " well first I suggest you do or watch the movie on apple TV. But second……. don't worry about it. Well yes, I may have been speaking to Lady Macduff, the sonnet is also about my views on gender roles. Lean in to my words as much or as little as u like. I would explain what I meant in the sonnet but that takes the fun of poetry away. But remember this. Keep your head high queens. I hope you enjoyed my work!
